Type of In-Mold Decorating is commonly called IMD, IML, IMF, Insert Molding
or Appliqué Molding. This process involves placing a plastic film
that is decorated and/or hard coated, formed or flat, into the injection
molding cavity and molding resin against it. The process yields an integrated
decorated three dimensional molded part. The advantages of this process
are many including protected graphics, durable hard coats, broader choice
of colors including chrome, changeability, back lighting, lighting compensation,
and superior aesthetics.
